Red Regatta Stripe Men's Boating Blazer Jacket, 1980s
A stylish and rare vintage men's boating jacket style blazer from the 80s by legendary British designer and prestigious Savile Row tailor, Tommy Nutter. One of the most important figures in menswear, Tommy Nutter was known as the 'Rebel Tailor of Saville Row', creating classic designs with a flamboyant flair, bringing character and individuality to the otherwise plain men's fashion world. He designed everything from Mick Jagger's wedding suit, to dressing 3 out of the 4 Beatles on the famous Abbey Road album cover (George Harrison wore denim instead). Both Nutter's bespoke and prêt-à-porter designs are in museums all over the world, including the V&A, The Fashion & Textiles Museum and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
This jacket is in a dark red, blue and green stripy pure linen fabric with notched lapels and patch pockets. Like most of the clothes from his ready to wear line, this jacket was designed by Tommy Nutter in England and produced in Italy, with a hand set lining and slightly relaxed tailoring to create a lightweight feel that is perfect for Spring and Summer.
