Black & White Op Art Printed Maxi Dress, 1970s
An incredible vintage dress from the 1970s by iconic British designer John Bates for his Jean Varon label. In a black and white op art printed fabric, with lettuce hem and angel sleeves, it has a glamorous bohemian aesthetic and fits perfectly with current trends. The waist is shirred, which pulls it in and gives a flattering look, whilst the long skirt has a great fullness - the back has ties which create a flirty, multi-keyhole effect, which could also be turned round to the front to create a plunging neckline reminiscent of Jean Varon’s contemporary, Ossie Clark.
