Deconstructed Avant Garde Fringe Dress, 2014
A rare 2014 Junya Watanabe for Comme Des Garcons grey avant garde fringe dress. In a fine gray wool knit from the spring summer 2014 collection. This striking dress features a deconstructed look, created by unusual seams, raw edges on the sleeve and an almost architectural look with long fringe tassels draping down the front.
This incredible example of Watanabe's work was featured as the penultimate piece in the 2014 runway show. In this collection Watanabe took the beach/ hippie as inspiration with their fringe t-shirts, morphing this look with his usual avant garde touch into something timeless and unusual. The sleeves are asymmetrical, almost cape like at the longer side.
Vogues fashion commentator said of the collection, "In this collection there was a link between past, present, and future; it was the idea of something changing but forever remaining the same that was defined as "Folklore" by Watanabe"
