Midnight Blue Panne Velvet Dress, 1970s
A glamorous and poetic vintage evening gown from 1971 by the genius vintage designer Janice Wainwright for the high quality label Simon Massey, who she worked for before starting her own label in the early 70s. This dress is one of Janice's very last designs for her short time at Simon Massey, documented in the 1971 Vanity Fair magazine (please ask for pics) and is a true piece of British fashion history by one of the 70s best designers.
In a sumptuous blue velvet, this full length evening gown has incredible balloon sleeves which puff at the shoulder and tighten at the cuff, giving a historical, otherworldly feel. The square neckline gives a peek of one of a woman's most sensual place - the décolletage, offering a sexiness that isn't crude and instead glamorous.
