Gold Lamé Brocade & Velvet Dress, 1960s
A dream of a vintage evening dress from c. the late 1960s by highly sought after British vintage label, Jean Varon. Designed by John Bates, Jean Varon dresses are becoming increasingly, more and more collectible as his genius in the 1960s and 70s is becoming recognised. He won dress of the year (an exceptional feat) in 1965 and designed the costumes for the iconic Emma Peel in the Avengers.
He is perhaps best known for his youthful and playful mod dresses in the 60s and his, floaty bohemian masterpieces in the 70s - this dress sits somewhere between the two, the gold ethnic inspired lamé and slightly voluminous sleeves give a boho touch whilst the mid-length A line shape gives a mod-meets-boho aesthetic.
