Yves Saint Laurent succeeded Christian Dior as the head of Dior in 1957, after leaving in 1961 he started his own label which became the first couture house to democratize fashion and create a ready to wear line, which resulted in the creation of YSL's legendary Rive Gauche label. Vintage Yves Saint Laurent dresses are often inspired by history, art and clothing from around the world, he used models of colour before other couture houses. Some of his most iconic designs include safari jackets, Russian folk inspired clothes and menswear inspired smoking suits.
